Thank you!! What I am unsure if is your terminology. When you use the word split black, what color are referencing? Based on the images that I've uploaded, what would you define their color as being? Thanks for your help, Joanne
Here is my crossing
Not original daddy but around the same color Cochin I put with Lavender hens -
Maverick is the result of the crossing- he hatched out all black, with age got red I wanted, his sister is all black - these are the (Splits) 1 parent gene so are mostly black- Yours even with color are Black splits due to the black just with added color
Mavericks sister- Red Cochin + Lavender cross
This hatch is the above Split Roo put back with Lavender hens- 3 came out all black and 4 came out Lavender - 3 lav Roos had the cream color I want and hen is just lavender color - hens in this hatch was supposed to go back to above Roo to put more red gene so the next generation will have the cream(Isabele) color I'm going for in the Lavender on Cochin
These are the only 3 I have left from Mavericks offspring - as you can tell the one is Roo which I thought was hen, he was just a late bloomer
-----Next hatch (Maverick back to offspring) will again create the above hatch outcome Black Chicks (Splits) and LAV color, just hoping with more red gene to come out Isabelle
No matter what color is put with Lavs they will hatch out black not Lavender- then when put those chicks back with Lavender you'll get the 50% Black Split (again) and 50% Lavender color - just like Mavericks offspring - Red is really dominant but as you see they no matter what hatch out black, only the Roosters came out with the red and the Isabelle (which is the LAV gene washing the red down as it does to black)
