Lavender X Buff Orpington cross

You're welcome! Crele is Black Breasted Red + Barring. There are "Crele" Orps, but they're actually Partridge + Barring. If you weren't particular about it being 100% accurate (most aren't) then the easiest way to get them would be to buy them from Fancy Chick.

I checked out fancy chick and they are not selling chicks now. I did see some in the UK that I like. I got a black chick out of this breeding. I was surprised to see that.

Hello I have been reading your thread on the lavender roo and buff orpington cross. My buff hen just hatched out 4 of the same cross this morning. This is my first hatch and I am very excited. My babies look just like the one you posted. Can you tell me what color they consider them? Did you breed them back when they were mature and if so what did you breed them too and what did you get? I am new at this and I am very curious of if i have hens and breed them back to lavender rooster what will I get. Thank you Dena

Hi Dena, some of my current chicks are out of hens that are from a lavender x buff. I bred them to another lavender rooster, which is what you are seeing in the photos. I am getting some blacks, lavenders and split. I'm seeing varying shades of lavender. I love these chicks!

I took these today. The ones in the grass are a week old. I have a second batch that is a few days old. It looks like one maybe a mauve.... I'm really enjoying myself with these babies. They are precious!

I'll be hatching out some here shortly that I'm really curious on which will be British Cuckoo Lavender Roo and my only British Jubilee hen (her Roo became highly aggressive and sadly had to be put down) - I'm really curious what the LAV will do to her coloring - wish he was just LAV not the Cuckoo but should work out the same

The Buffs used in the original cross were the females, correct?

So with chickens the males have two "Z" chromosomes (ZZ) and females have 1 "Z" and 1 "W" chromosomes (ZW). The silver/gold base is sex-linked, meaning it only passes on the "Z" chromosome.

Here's the genetics for silver/gold:

Males-
S/S = silver
S/s = golden (silvery yellow)
s/s = gold

Females-
S/- = silver
s/- = gold

If your original cross was Lavender x Buff (always write as sire x dam, never dam x sire) the genetics would look like this:

Lavender (S/S lav/lav) x Buff (s/- LAV/LAV)

Male Offspring-
100% Golden-based Black Split (S/s LAV/lav)

Female Offspring-
100% Silver-based Black Split (S/- LAV/lav)

The golden color that your pullets have is known as "leakage". It's not because they are gold-based, it's basically "holes" in the black pigmentation where the red pigmentation comes through.

Crossing the male and female offspring of this cross will result in

Males-
Black S/S LAV/LAV
Black Split S/S LAV/lav
Lavender S/S lav/lav
Golden S/s LAV/LAV
Black Split S/s LAV/lav
Isabel (sort of) S/s lav/lav

Females-
Black S/- LAV/LAV
Black Split S/- LAV/lav
Lavender S/- lav/lav
Gold s/- LAV/LAV
Black Split s/- LAV/lav
Isabel s/- lav/lav

The next step to fix the Isabel coloration would be to cross both of the Isabel and then cross the best resulting Isabel male over his mother. All of the offspring from that final cross will breed true for Isabel.

As a slight correction to my previous post, you could get Isabel fastest by crossing a Gold Laced or Buff male over a Lavender female and then crossing the offspring (about 1/100).

I've got a Split Red Roo that I'm working to get the Isabel -

Original Parentage:
Red Cochin x Partridge Cochin Hen

Roo offspring from above x Lavender Hen

That Roo came out Red Split

Put above Roo to LAV hen, which the did create the Isabel on the Roos not hens and was incomplete unless they wound up with more color as they got older I don't know I had to rehome them -

So I'm putting my Red Split back to his offspring to put more Red into next offspring, should come out the Isabel even in the girls I hope and not just the boys

It looks like one of my recent chicks is an Isabel ! I love this project. The structure on my chicks is very nice. I am going to breed this girl to my best split roo, and I should get Isabel's. My next project is blue eggs.

Each one has different markings even tho they are the split so we'll see what happens when they get older - not what we wanted but stuck now as there are 14 of the cross color - hoping they can pop out the Isabel as well

Not our birds but this is the crossed chicks
