Lawnmower vs Rooster GRAPHIC PICS/ Saying Goodbye

Thank God for people like you! Poor baby - breaks my heart

'wow that is hard to do by yourself, one handed!'

I can imagine! I covered the bandage first, then stuck it around my dogs tail, then had the vet wrap already cut and dangling from something near by. everything is sticky. watch out for fire ants going for the sugars.
The trick I found was not to wrap it too loose-fell off
but then in frustration it got wrapped too tight...and that was very painful for her. I do not really know how much circulation birds have in their feet. It may not be as much of a problem. Wish I was there to help you out. When you run out of meds, try the honey.

Hope Kubota is doing well today----it's very heartwrenching to put so much effort into an animal, and think it isn't making it. I think your boy is still o.k., and just needs time, care, and rest. You're doing an awesome job!

Well, Mr Kubota, sir, is a gourmet! Who knew?
I guess it only makes sense - if you were injured and didn't have much appetite, would an all white plate kick your tummy in gear? I think not! So his plate was just white - eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese. After watching him peck the ground and pull on grasses for a while, it occurred to me to put a little variety in for him. So after he dried some (I rinsed him off some, as you will see in the pic), I put him back in the kennel and gave him: egg, yogurt, cottage cheese, pellets AND turkey, then I 'dressed' the yogurt with dandelion leaves and flowers. I ended up having to give him the rest of the turkey (off of a pre-packaged sandwich I bought for the trip yesterday) , and he was pecking at the fancy yogurt. I don't know if it was the excitement (see photo) or activity, or my giving him a "fine dining" experience... but he definitely ate!

I had left him in his kennel in the grass, but when I went to check on him there were ants on the kennel. I took him out and let him out on the grass away from the ants, and by my gate where my girls are hanging out. After about an hour I took off his bandage and rinsed him off. The sugardine is crazy! When I took off the bandage, what had been dark colored skin was pink flesh. I will definitely put that on again!

Photo is kind of sad... he is wet and scraggly, but you can see how he has lost weight. Hopefully he will start putting it back on now that he has started eating again. My girls definitely think he still has 'it' though... you can see Big Poppy in the back of the crowd wondering what the heck is going on.

It started with just a couple....

and then everybody had to come see the handsome new guy

ETA _ the man of the hour (you can see how the last ridge of his comb has turned dark and his face is paler

but beyond the camera flash you can also still see his stink eye!!)

Oh... and I am in NW Florida. I appreciate all the offers to help with Kubota's care, but I would just feel so horrible if something happened to him with other people investing in his care. Thank you so much though... you folks are awesome.

Those pics are just too cute of everyone checking on him. Poor Big Poppy, must be feeling bewildered about this new guy coming along. Mr. Kubota has to start feeling better with all the fuss over him!

And I bet it'll help him eat better too.
