Lawnmower vs Rooster GRAPHIC PICS/ Saying Goodbye

HA That actually sounds awesome viktoria, something that would give him more stability but not chaff.

CZ- I think i have something almost exactly like that! I bought a 'playhouse' for my cats made out of thin plastic tubing / pipes. It held my hog cat so it would hold 'bota, just have to cut holes...... hmmmmm. I really think a good sling would help him some.

hehehe thanks noodleroo! I am a softyr for a living creature that has been left alone to suffer. I am the kind of person that if I hit or think I hit an animal with my truck, I turn around and go look for it. One time I hit a rabbit and when I got back it was still alive. I was sooo upset!! I wrapped it in a towel - it didn't respond to any touch on its hind end, even pinching, but freaked just being touched on his front legs. I just knew his back was broken so I tearfully took him to my dad to "do the deed". I held him while I explained what had happened and we discussed teh final exit. When I went to hand him to my dad the rabbit nearly jumped out of my arms!!
I took him and set him under a bush in a brushy field, then sat there until he gathered his wits / strength and hopped away, because there was an owl hooting nearby.

Another time I raised a purple martin bird, when I got him he had feathers and just seemed kind of stunned. After 2-3 days he flew away. I walked outside that same afternoon and he was on my fence, I called him and he landed on my finger! He finally flew away a year later! (didn't even leave with the rest of the martins, had to keep him inside when it started getting cool).

Can you say "sucker"?????

Guess what?? I just walked out to my dad's back porch for a drink and right there on his counter was a big canister of Sevin Dust 5%!!!! But now... this says for "lawns, gardens, plants and ornamentals" or something... nothing about chickens. This is what y'all are talking about, right?

That's the stuff!

Ummm....

so how do I use it?
hu.gif
I know to rub it into his feathers at the top of his neck first, right? But then how? and how much? I talked to Dawg via pm so I know to wrap the leg really good and use an extra rag to keep the powder from getting in there......

ahh... so you guys are proposing a little chicken wheelchair of sorts? We were thinking small with just a sling LOL

Put him in a bag with his head sticking out after putting some of the Sevin in the bottom of the bag. Give the bag a shake but dont let the dust come out around his neck. It's not good for either of you to breath in. The plastic bag I used to do mine scared the cra* out of my poor little girl so maybe a less crinkly bag. I even turned the whole shabang upside down. I still vote for the prostetic leg. Lol

When I use the Sevin, I just take the bird in my lap, gently holding the legs, lay the bird on it's side, and sprinkle a little on the underside of the feathers, working it in with my hand. I do that all over until the whole bird is done. It's a good idea to wear a dust mask, and be careful not to let the bird inhale it. You could cover his head with a light towel to be safe. Never tried the bag method.

Happy Birthday! Your a wonderful Person!!!!!

My father in law in Mexico once accidentally pulled one of his roosters foot off I have no idea how it just happen like that but he was handling it for some reason and the whole foot popped off. While we was there his dad took some kind of shiny green leaves with aloe vera juice and wrapped it up in that. When we came back the next year I heard this thunk thunk thunk......I turned around there was my favorite rooster hobbling over to say HI! lol he was completely healed and mating with his hens. Nothing could stop him and all he had left was his leg and nub. So he became Nubbin.

I have a BO Rooster and when it gets too hot the back of his comb will go dark but we put pans of water down fresh several times a day when he dips his feet in it the color comes back in his comb. It got really hot here around 107 - 110...with heat index. But once he cools down everything goes back to normal...

Good luck!
