Lawnmower vs Rooster GRAPHIC PICS/ Saying Goodbye

Ok here is my life lesson of the day...
"Those of us who like to offer assistance and hate to take any, are depriving other people of the opportunity to be generous and kind; we are also blinding ourselves to the reality of mutual dependence."
(Said with humor and admiration! plus some pressure)

Did you try to tie a thread around the "chunk of yuck" like someone suggested. Seemed like that would be a pretty good idea??? Just kind of choke it off. But I thnk you're onto something letting it dry out a little. Good luck with Dr. Wife! Is that what you call her?

WHoa! I just read bloominorchids post. NICE!

Have you tried the Granulex? It will dry out that piece and crust it over so it will either heal or fall off. I swear that stuff is as miraculous as the Gentian Violet!

I defer to Dr wife re: iron in liver. I just don't know... with the amt of blood loss he had I don't think that little bit of iron will hurt him for one time but wouldn't want it for steady diet. The drying out schedule sounds like a good idea.

hahaha no, just not comfortable throwing their names around on an internet board, even as kind as everyone has been. So for the sake of clarity here I call them Dr. Wife and Dr. H since they are married. There is a 3rd vet though, and her last name starts with H so may have to make changes if she comes in to visit Kubota on Thursday, too. I have a feeling he will be quite the spectacle at the dog / cat veterinary practice!

Where would I even look for Granulex? Maybe my vet will know....

Pretty much I guess I am going to keep doing the same things as always until I see the vet Thursday.

I am kind of concerned about it being so hot. About 3 weeks ago lightning struck and blew out a breaker and my outside outlet, so I don't have a way to run an extension cord for a little fan for Kubota. He is in my 3 horse stock trailer - meaning the top 2-3ft are open slats and the rest to the floor is solid. I leave the big loading door (maybe 8ft wide?) open adn the trailer is under the shade of a huge old pecan tree for part of the day. I put the kennel tray on top of the kennel to make kind of a porch roof and provide some shade - but Kubota was panting super hard this afternoon.

I tell ya, if it isn't one thing it's another some days, huh?

I have gotten the Granulex at the vet before. Ya, you have to watch out for the heat with those larger chickens. I lost a buff Orpington roo one summer from the heat in south Texas. If he is drinking water, I would put just an occasional ice cube in it. Only one day until he gets to see the doctor!

Hi Lori... I put frozen Gatorade ice cubes in my brownies (6 Rhode Island Reds) bowl when it's hot. They love it...

FYI I'd contribute to Kubotas fund... Maybe you'd get enough you could buy him an air conditioner, lol I think you ought to open up a chicken rescue and quit your day job...
