Layena® SunFresh® Recipe

Quote:
I cannot say that feeding Purina LSF contributes to our constant 85% lay ratio since we have never fed any animal proteins to any of our flocks. Nor do we supplement with artificial light.

But, this feed fits our feed program as a supplement. Our flocks pasture free range and have Purina LSF pellets and whole corn available side by side. The whole corn is filled x2 above Purina LSF.
The flocks only eat what the nutritionally need.

We sell all the eggs we can produce marketed in this way.

I got some Layena a month ago, because of the good sale prices at TSC. Can't wait for it to be gone so I can go back to Gamebird flight conditioner. Egg count has gone down. Layena just doesn't have enough protein for my way of feeding.

Interesting thread. We use Evergreen Extra Egg 16 (Kent Feeds) in their feeder, a little scratch and cracked corn treat when they go out first thing in the AM and when they come in at night. They pick up an extra 30-60 minutes a day with artificial light this time of year. Of course, a couple of treats during the day as well. Free range pretty much all day. The 12 girls are laying 11-12 eggs a day like clockwork and have since they began laying. They are very healthy, fortunately. It is a good feed for us.

I have always used purina layena for all my show birds.
When it comes to good feed....purina is it. That includes
their other feeds for rabbits, goats, whatever.
They spend tons of money on research at special facilities
and do test after test to make sure they are giving us the best
for our animals. Go to any shows and you will see purina layena
as the top feed in the winners circle. Now for those who feel that
they are cheating their birds out of protein(your really not) just take
a few of their eggs and hard boil them up and put them in the food chopper
and feed them right back to your birds....shells and all.
With layena, you don't need to feed oyster shell for good eggs because
they put the right amount of calcium in the feed.
Not many feeds do the things purina does to give us such good quality.

I don't know if its the layena, but prior to adding it to the feed we were getting about 50 eggs a week. Now we are getting 90. It's worth the extra drive to the Stock Shop.

My birds are shiney and molt very efficiently from what I have read on here they aren't laying up a storm but are doing alright for the season and since I added light to the coop. All of my birds even the ones I bought in have been fed nothing but Layena from starter/ grower scratch and layer mix I do supplement with Boss and fresh veggies and leftovers. I think Layena is a great feed. I may add some flock raiser because of the extra protien but so far Sunfresh Layer both pellets (for LF) and mash (bantams) has worked great for me. My birds are in what I would consider to be great feather condition. I really love this feed and so does my flock which means more $$$ for me but its worth it.

I used Layena for the last 6 weeks for the first time in a year(Got it cheap at TSC).My LF are hardly laying. Finally bought Purina Gamebird Flight Conditioner again (19%) & can't wait for them to start eating it again. It smells so much better also. Layena smells like stale beer. Might be because it's all grain who knows. My chickens seem to eat just as much calcium with Layena or without.
