Layer pellets or crumbles which do chickens prefer?

I just wanted to thank everyone for replying and give an update because this is very inportant especially for chicken owners that only have a few chicken like me - I have two.

Before we left for Atlanta, Thursday morning, my DH went out and bought a new bag of layer crumbles and I filled their feeder and we left. Well lo and behold by Saturday they had emptied the feeder!

The moral of the story is; feed does get stale! Despite want the guy at the feed store told me.

My poor chickens were not eating sufficient because they didn't like stale feed! Remember I only put out a small amount each day and kept the bag in my house, so it was not moldy or anything like that, it was stale.

I plan to put my own expiration date on the feed and dispose of it in two months if it is not finished. I stll don't know if they prefer crumbles to pellets, but at least they are eating a healthy amount.
