Nice to meet you Ellen. NFC has given you a link to the state thread. You could post your zoning questions there. Maybe someone, knows a place you can have them and not be too far for you to live.
Hello
Welcome to BYC!!
So glad to have you here!!
Thanks for sharing your story!!
You have come to the right place.
There are many people on here that are ready to help in anyway they can!
The learning center also has alot of great information on it as well!
Enjoy!
Hi! I hope you find a place with lots of room for chickens, ducks, turkeys... (goats, mini cows, horses, maybe an ostrich). If nothing else, you can keep a few in the house, or hide the coop!
I know that this thread is months old - but you CAN have chickens in "unicorporated Lee County" which is North Fort Myers. Now, gated communities and apartments obviously have their own rules. But out here in the North Fort, chickens is fine.
I live just outside of Fort Myers and you can have chickens in ag zoned areas (these do exist) and some cities in the area have inacted chickens regulations.
Fort Myers proper and Bontita Springs allow a limited number of hens but no roosters.
Anything in Lee county that is zoned residential or commercial including ag/residential is absolutely no chickens at this time.
Make sure you read zoning regulations closely, the keeping of chickens is controlled by zoning ordinances.
I live in Buckingham in between Fort Myers and Leigh Acers; though I’m moving back to Minnesota soon and am rehoming my six hens.
