This can also happen to human babies who get a hair wrapped around a finger or toe without the parent having realized it. Those of you with infants should make it a point to check your child's fingers and toes daily! It has cost some babies their digits.

Is it possible that gently massaging the swollen foot would help improve the circulation and help reduce the swelling? I doubt you could convince him to prop his foot.

So glad you noticed what was going on. Don't feel like this makes you a bad chickie mommy, it could happen to anyone.

its all those darn feathers on their legs - two of us took them(the bands) off and I had never banded all of them, so lost track of how many actually had them on. That is part of the reason I was taking them off in the first place. GRRR!

Anyway last night he was still limping a little and when they would stop moving he would hold that leg up. He does seem to be better though. Looks like he might have a permenant indentation in his leg.

This poor guy is also my one that got picked up by a falcon with a hatchmate then dropped. Right after that all his white spangles grew in so my husband named him Rogue.

ETA:
Just checked his leg - the indentation is lessened but is definately gonna leave a scar. He doesn't walk with a noticeable limp this afternoon but still runs with one. Has quit laying down when they get to their random destinations. Still lifts the leg up to take weight off of it occasionally. I think he will be OK. I keep giving him extra raisins and kisses and telling him I'm sorry. I think he only tolerates it for the raisins...
