Hi everyone! I was wondering what other household things you can use besides buying leg bands for the chickens. I need to tell a few apart but the feed store is out of legbands. I dont want to unintentially use something that will hurt them. thought you guys would have some ideas! thanks!

I use the multi-colored "zip" ties that you find in the electrical dept of the hardware/big box stores. Usually 6-8 colors per bag

I've used the small colored ponytail bands before. The fuzzy ones. Worked well!!

Quote:Dang....I like this idea. Definitely more "stretchy" than zip ties....and probably cheaper too!!!!

can those things hurt them or "cut off" circulation? How tight?

Too bad your chickens aren't bantams. I'd mail you some of mine.

Quote:You have to watch as the chicks grow out and adjust them accordingly. They are not the plain rubber ones but colored fuzzy, I usually have to slip them twice around younger grow outs and change as their legs grow. If adult birds the zip ties work well since they are more mature.

Quote:Yes, I would recommend that they are loose fitting. The foot stops them from coming off.

Don't make them tight!! They do stretch. They will pull them off tho if they are too loose! [IMG]
