Leg bands that last

I don't mind wingbanding older chicks, and they don't seem to have a problem with it. Day olds I won't do. I was pretty iffy the first ones I tried, but it is really rare that they really bleed or anything. I just decided to go with wb because I could do it fairly young and not have to worry about changing the legbands as much when they were growing, and I was always paranoid about missing a legband and leaving them on too long. The only tags the cows get is the BT from the vet, we do tattoo the ears though ... have read where people do tattoo their chickens on the wing webs ......

I considered a tattoo but wasn't sure how it would work on poultry, never heard of anyone doing it. I think I would like that for a permanent id and have colored plastic bands for quick ID by which pen they're from.
I'll have to look into tattooing again, I hadn't thought about it for a while.

Been using Bandettes and spirals for the last decade. I prefer the Bandettes since they last a couple years until the number becomes difficult to read. When it gets to that point I put a new band on.

I'm not familiar with those particular bands.The main thing is make sure you use the proper size for the birds being banded.

Small zip ties work for us as we'll. We have some that has been on 2 years. Make sure to leaver enough space for growth if banded young.

I tried these........they pop off over time. Now I use colored zip ties for easy identification and wing bands for specific bird id documentation.
