Leg Mites?

Hi all,
Does anyone have an opinion about this? Mites or just some flaking?
It’s curious that it’s only on one leg, the other looks quite normal.

Looks like leg mite damage. Not sure why it's only affecting one leg, but both should be treated, even if the chicken doesn't have scaley leg, it will be a good precaution! You can soak her legs in warm water for several minutes and brush gently with a toothbrush. Then apply Vaseline or coconut oil to suffocate the remaining mites, you'd want to do this one or two times a day for the next few weeks.

If it's scaly leg mites, it appears to be early, which is a good thing you caught it.

Treatment is so easy and simple, it doesn't hurt to go ahead even if you only suspect mites. Neglected they can be quite painful and cause a lot of secondary issues.

The simplest, most effective, cheapest treatment is plain old castor oil. Dip the legs and feet in the oil, generously slathering it all over and under any exposed scales. It may seem like an awful mess, but you can let the chicken go back to their run and coop, and the oil eventually gets cleaned up on the activity of the chicken, meanwhile the oil has smothered the mites.

Repeat in a week to ten days to get any mites that have hatched from eggs.

If this is something other than leg mites, castor oil has antibiotic and anti-fungal properties and can possibly be helpful in dealing with whatever else might be going on. This is one big reason I use castor oil instead of Vaseline. Vaseline might help smother mites, but it isn't going to do anything else.

I am treating some sever leg mites ok some fosters we took in a few weeks ago. I found a cream called NuStock, works amazing in this!

I know! Once I figured out what it was and how BAD it really was....well...I didn't exactly feel like taking a bite of anything. lol Pretty nasty stuff but healing quickly!
