Leg Problem

Update on the duck - I did go buy some Vitamin B complex today. Hopefully it will help the poor thing. It is hobbling around, but does not go as far as the others. I helped it into the pool for a bit last night, & he/she was happy for the swim.

This is how the duck stands, & it hobbles around like this, too.

Any guesses on sex of these guys?

Hmmmmm it is hard to tell since they are so young. What do they sound like. You should definitely be able to tell based on what they sound like.

I have a video of the ducks, but it won’t upload. They’re both kind of raspy sounding. One is a little higher pitched than the other.

How long do you think it will take to see improvement with the B vitamins?

It may take as little as a few days to a few weeks depending on how bad their legs are.

As for raspy how warm is your brooder? if they are still in one? Make sure they have a way to dunk their heads to keep those nares and eyes good and clean and put a lil ACV into a gal of water it can help with some bacteria. 1 Tab to a gal of water changed daily.

You have to upload your video to viemo or you tube to copy and paste here.

I’d say if they are both raspy sounding, they are males. And also more prone to leg issues since they grow at a faster rate. Give it a week. You will likely see improvement. And like Miss Lydia said, see if you can confine the one with problems for a few days. It should help.

The duck is showing some improvement tonight! He/she was able to stand for a short period, & even waddled a short way without its hocks on the ground. Yay!!

Also, Ducky (it doesn’t really have a name, we call them both Ducky or Duck Duck) is doing much better taking his vitamins. I got the quick dissolve pills, & have been crushing them, adding them to 1mL water, & giving it to him in a syringe. Previously, he bites at it the whole time, & just generally fights it. Tonight, however, he allowed me to hold him without much fuss, he bit down on the syringe & held still while I gave it to him. This was the first time he got more vitamin than was spilled, so I’ll take it!

How long do I need to continue the daily B vitamins? The duck is walking now, & seems to be regaining strength. She does walk very stiff-legged.

Off topic, when do the males get their drake feather? They’re 8 weeks old.

Keep up with the vitamins at least a week after full recovery. You want to keep it in her system.

You can tell quicker by voice if wanting to know drake from duck Ducks quack loud drakes have a raspy voice. Drake feather comes in later.
