You may find the website of the Madison, WI based Mad City Chickens group of interest as well. Back in 2004, they successfully got the city to overturn outdated zoning laws and make backyard chickens legal within city limits. Since that time, numerous other groups across the country have approached their municipalities (including the likes of Chicago) with proposed chicken laws patterned after those in Madison.

We spent the last 2.5 years producing a feature-length documentary on city chickens and the film takes its name from this group. By the way, it looks like it'd be a bit of a hike for you, but the film is making its world premiere in one week, April 3rd during the opening night of the Wisconsin Film Festival in Madison. We'd love to see you there!
