Legal Elimination of Hawks and Owls

I understand the blurry legality surrounding hawks--but I was totally floored when I was recently informed (by animal control) that killing an Opossom is illegal. Maybe it's state/county specific but whaaaaat.

Killing BOP's is not blurry at all, and it's nation wide.
States do have differing laws regarding other predators.
I guess that's what happens 'under a rain cloud'. :D

Legality of killing raptors in defence of poultry is blurry only to those wanting to skirt the law. I would double check what the animal control officer said; even elected people can make mistakes in regards laws, especially when in a hurry.

Awh. Right in the feels!

You're right, I'm absolutely incorrect in using the term, "blurry". It *is* cut and dry. My bad.

Maybe animal control was pulling my leg. Idk, at any rate I thought it was weird.

I will kill any predator of any kind that tries to kill and eat my chickens. It cost me too much money to feed them even though I let them free range some. There is too much other food out there (squirrels, rabbits, coons, chipmunks, birds rats, etc) that they can eat and leave my chickens alone.

I wouldn't kill either. They've both been in my yard but I don't see the point.

If nature worked things out I think we'd be better off even if half of us weren't here.

I felt the same way and had the same viewpoint until a predator came in and wiped out half of my flock in a single day. Killed just to be killing. Now I protect what is depending on me for protection.

I've had predators kill animals, but I knew the risks. Still not going to kill the predators. If it was a threat to me, yes but otherwise I'll protect my animals in other ways. Better housing, more cover, etc.
