Yes, but obtaining a landowner permit to kill as many as I want is much easier than keeping one as a pet.

How many do you have now, and how many are you comfortable with having? I am not sure exactly how it works, as I've never dealt with Canadian geese, or any protected breed/species. But is there a way you can purchase more from another source to get the permit? Even if you later sell off the extras?

Well there is a happy ending here! I called a wildlife reacue center called "Avian Haven" that I can trust and asked for their advice. They gave me the number of a man in northern Maine who has about 50 Canada geese with all the proper permits. So tomorrow I am off to Augusta to meet the guy who is super nice. I will be giving the geese to him and they can live out their life at the Wildlife Resource Center! I think I will be getting some from a legal breeder in the spring. I get to visit these guys whenever I want though, so it is a bittersweet thing. Thank you all for your help and the lesson learned here is to obtain your geese legally from local sources!

I was able to separate them before catching them. They did well on the 75 minute drive and the man who took them is super nice. He is going to help me acquire some legal ones in the spring!

Sooooo I stopped at the feed store and they had this white Chinese gander for sale. He has quite the attitude and is very loud. I thought with the Canada's gone, he could really use a home that isn't a dinner table and I had a little extra room now. So now he just needs a name!
