Lemon Blue Orpington....

What breeds would be used to create lemon blue orpingtons. This is something I would like to try, but need some ideas first.....

Possibly the closest birchen based bird to an orpington might be a copper black marans. It would take a few years of selection to regain type.

The result of this cross is not lemon blue.
In order to get lemon blue one needs to introduce the birchen gene (ER).
The result of crossing those two colours will not lead to lemon blue. They could, in time, be made into a couple of colour patterns, but neither would be lemon blue.

The genotype for lemon blue is ER/ER, Bl/bl+
which, as one can see, is quite simple from a gold birchen bird.

The approximate genotype of crossing buff with splash is
E/eWh, s+/s+ (or s+/-), Bl,bl+, Co/co+, Db/db+, Mh/mh+, Di/di+.....possibly Ml-Pg/ml+-pg+ & probably other genes.

There are some cochins currently being called "lemon blue" but the birds are the above mentioned cross. In their present state can only be considered as attractive colour crosses.​

Krys, you're forgetting that many buffs are e^b rather than E^Wh. Which just makes it more confusing

Buff Orps are eWh. Regarding making lemon blue it wouldn't make any difference.
