Lemon Cuckoo Orpington Auction!

I'm thinking of doing a lemon cuckoo orpington project, and/or maybe a lemon barred rock project. This little cockrel hatched from a set of mixed breed (BR x BO in this case) eggs from my BIL. He's sweet, so I was planning on keeping him anyway, then I saw that ebay auction. Yikes! He has yellow legs, so maybe cross back to a buff rock to create a lemon barred rock? Sounds yummy, huh?

I think this is the cockrel's father, also from my BIL. I brought this Big Boy home for the project. He has light legs, so more appropriate for the orpington project. They both have leakage in the tail and wing feathers, but are only f1 and f2 crosses without purposeful breeding.

Any opinions on my chances of making it work? Suggestions? They are pretty birds, but need some more typey genetics I think.

I'll take some eggs fertilized by the big boy, if you don't mind

Beautiful!
I agree, the first would make a good rock project and the second would make a great orp project.

He's pretty

Here is my light golden cuckoo marans roo, Cuckoo Baby, that I am going to use for my project. He is much lighter than many of the golden cuckoos I've seen and lighter than my other two GCM roos. He is older now than in this picture. I just need to find him a buff or buff barred girl lol.

Mary, well, I may have some culls available next spring....we'll see how that goes.

flgardengirl, your roo is gorgeous too. I like his colors without trying to make offspring just golden. His barring is nice and defined, so maybe you'll get some great barring. Are you working on golden cuckoo marans then? Or something else?

I'm going to have find some nice buff rocks somewhere, and I need better quality opringtons to work with, guess I'm going to have to head on over to the breed threads and see if anybody has extra. Thanks for the input.

Those are such pretty birds.
I love almost anything with yellow or gold on it. One of these days I will get into the bantam Cochin yellow barred birds but for now i am just breding the Golden Cuckoo Marans and am going to put some buff Orps in with them to see what I will get. Neat project and pretty yard candy.

I wouldn't pay $300 for 6 eggs or even 12 eggs. I don't care what breed they are!!! Reason being there is no guarantee that even one of those would hatch. Its a waste of money.
