So what makes the Lemon Cuckoo Orpingtons eggs on eBay go for such a high amount when the White Leghorn eggs are bargain basement priced? Should I be looking to get those orps next time? Do they lay better then other birds or is it just the color is hot right now? We have the chickens for layers, not eye candy. But if they suit the purpose I'd consider.

There only a handful of Lemon Cuckoo Orps in the US, while there are untold millions of white Leghorns. It's simple supply and demand. One is a collector bird, and the other is more likely than not, an egg production bird.
