Good thread!
Yes, there will be some that leave BYC because it isn't "All chickens all the time" but there is a method to this madness!
As we've said before, at the end of the day, the goals of BYC are:
1) Get people the information they need to help raise chickens.
2) Get other people interested and converted to raising chickens
3) To keep as many of you engaged with the site as possible.
That last bit is VERY important. Our staff have been managing online communities for over 50 years of combined experience and have learned a few things.
1) An info only forum causes people to come, post a question, hopefully get an answer, and leave. They often don't stick around to answer other questions.
2) An info community with social aspects creates stickiness. People come here to get answers but then they stay because they have made good friends.
3) When our members come to see what their friends are doing, there is a much higher probability that there will be peeps online to answer chicken questions when they come up.
Making BYC the
best place anywhere to get information on how to keep and maintain backyardchickens is largely in part to the great sociability of the forum.
Sure, some die hard chickenites will not like our format... that's fine. But remember that we do a LOT of work behind the scenes to ensure that we have a community where the most people can get the most information as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Our 60 new members a day seem to agree.
