im not sure whether what is making my cockerel ill but i've narrowed it down to mites, coccidiosis, a rare illness or maybe old age. we bought him from a farmer and we didn't know what age he was. we've had him for 2 years now.

if he has mites his feet will look swollen and ugly i had some of my chickens get them there feet look pretty bad i used vasilene on them for a week at bed time and now they are fine if you think it is the coccidiosis i would treat him for it ..i think better safe than sorry

yeah, i've seen threads where people say they think there chicken has coccidiosis and then the next day they say there chicken died. with corid can you only give it to the ill chicken or can it go in the main water for all the chickens ?

from what i read on the package it sounds like you can put it in the water i dont think it would hurt the other chickens .. the bag says an aid and prevention so i would .. im going to but it in my chickens water just to be safe

Is your chicken better yet? I have one doing this as well. We are giving vitamins and electrolytes and on day 4 of oxyteracycline injections. She has improved a little but still closing eyes and staying by herself. Not eating. Has drank some over the last few days but not much.

this evening he lost his balance and fell on his side and couldn't get up. i picked him up and feed him some wet bread for a while, after that he could stand and he stumbled his way to bed.
he hasn't been wormed but the other symptoms don't match worms. worms make chickens lose weight rapidly and make them very hungry which is not what my cockerel is.

i recently found out that if a chicken has cocci they die after six days and if the survive they become immune, its been over a week now so i don't think its cocci. i did however find a few lice/mite looking insect in his feather and will tomorrow buy some mite powder along with apple cider vinegar to maybe help him generally. i got some nutri drops today and tried them to see if they will help him. i'll see if the place im going has any de-wormer kits.

Mites will make him miserable! Check for red Mites in the coop too... they are a pain to kill off.

Fingers crossed, maybe he will be right as rein soon xx
