Lethargic, dull comb, smelly vent, 'wobbly' hen.........

THANK YOU everyone.
Yeah, I'm sad. More so today. She was one of my gals, after all..........even though she just and three other girls only joined our flock about two months before I broke my leg.
These 4 weren't even named yet. I kind of feel bad about THAT too. I have been completely unable to get out to where the coop/enclosure is located. So, I have not been able to check on everyone as I normally do. My kids and husband have been nice enough to take care of the gals during my recovery, but it is not their hobby. I told my husband that I need to find a way out to the garden next to the enclosure later today. I am now able to do this! Yeay! So, he and the kids can hand me the girls to check over tonight. I think the entire area is due for a good cleaning. I definitely cannot do this myself yet. Again, everyone here is doing what they can. As for the antibiotics, I can probably do that as a precaution.
I attempted to look up the state info regarding necropsy. That did NOT go well yesterday.
I found the same link that Eggsessive shared (thanks!) and seemed to round and round on that web site.
I also went to extension services ...........nothing there either. *sigh*
Finally went to the University of Arizona web site and got a hit. HOWEVER........the U wanted about $250 to do the testing.
I just cannot justify that kind of cost right now. Sadly, we had just thrown out our only cooler, just a couple days before this. I could have then kept her iced until I possibly found somewhere else to send her. I do NOT, unfortunately, have room in my fridge right now, nor do I have another option for that. At the end of the day, I told my DH that it was time to give up on the necropsy and move on. :( I would have LOVED to have done one and had answers. I plan to make some calls and line up more information for the future. I hope to keep raising chickens and I am, sadly, sure this will not be the last girl to get sick. (I'd love it IF none of them EVER did!!!!)
Again, thanks to you all. She was a beautiful, healthy looking gal! Other than the dull comb and her weird behaviour, I would not have known she was even ill. She was fully feathered, dark, beautiful colour, bright eyes (even to the end when she closed them), and shiny, shiny feathers! I'm at a total loss over what happened.

If I DO learn anything else, I will be sure to share.

This is what I found. I just cannot afford to do it.
Had I still had the cooler, it would have been easy to take here there, at least, since we live in the same city.
The price is what had me. I thought that since it was associated with the University, it would be less, or perhaps, done as community service. I see that this is not the case.

Sorry that you had trouble with the necropsy website--I thought that you could call the state vet number that was listed on Monday. Some states like California have free necropsies, and others may cost $75 or $80. It would be nice to know what caused the death, but I can't blame you since most people can't afford to spend $250. The best thing to do now is to educate yourself about this disease, to know what symptoms to look for, and to always get Mareks-vaccinated chickens in the future.
