My rooster has been acting odd the past 2 days. My flock free ranges during the day and I noticed he will just stand still or crouch down without moving a whole lot. His comb is slightly purple. I offered him water with electrolytes and he did take a few sips. I just found him on the roosting bars like this. He doesn’t normally roost in this position. Any advice or suggestions is appreciated!

Have you noticed any wheezing or labored breathing? Has around his eyes or ears puffy? Any discharge from his eyes or nose?

No wheezing. He does have his butt in the air and it’s going up and down as he breathes. No visible puffiness and no discharge

When was the last time you dewormed? How does his poop look? I would separate him from the rest until you can figure out what is wrong with him. Add a little bit of apple cider vinegar to his water, that will help provide him with more of an appetite and will help build his immune. Scrambled eggs are a good energy booster and plain, raw yogurt will provide him with probiotics needed to help him get better.

I dewormed approximately 2 months ago. I just fixed him water with ACV and dipped his beak in it so he got a little in his system. I add probiotics a few times a week to their food. I’m going to offer him eggs and plain Greek yogurt tomorrow. Hope he makes it through the night. Thanks for y’all your suggestions! I really appreciate it.

I’m going to research this some more and order it tomorrow. I’ve never heard of this, but certainly willing to have it on hand. Thank you 🙏🏽
No problem! Keep me updated on how he does! Silver Shield is seriously a miracle worker. I'm thinking that some of my meat birds had coccidiosis a while back. They would get sick and withing an hour they would start seizing and die. If I could catch it before they started seizing, I would get them a few dropper fulls and it would get them back up on their feet. I just added some to their water after that then.

I think I found somewhere locally that sells it. Going to swing by tomorrow and pick it up if they have it in stock. What’s the dosage?

For humans, it's one teaspoon about 3 times a day. It's tasteless, so you could give it to him straight. I just kinda dumped it in their water till I thought it was good, though.
