One of my roosters has been acting a little strange for a while. He adjusts his crop many times in a row, shakes his head, and then fluffs up and goes to sleep.
At first I thought something was wrong with his crop, but I've been monitoring it closely, and it seems to empty just fine.
I did notice that his ears were very dirty and full of gunk. I cleaned them, and he seemed to improve a little. The gunk came back, and I think I cleaned them twice more. But his ears are completely clear now, and he is still the same.
What's strange is that I can't see any other sign of illness. His poops are normal, he is eating and drinking normally, he is still mounting his girls and taking care of them, etc.
He's also not always adjusting his crop and falling asleep. It seems to come in waves. Like, he'll be completely normal for a bit, and then he'll start.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong, and what I could do to help him?

Have you checked his crop to make sure it’s not overt enlarged? Does his breath have a foul odor to it? How’s his weight? I’m suspecting either Sour Crop or an impaction of the crop. See if his crop empties over night, if it doesn’t, then he may have an impaction.

Does he have any signs of a respiratory disease? Are there any bubbles or foam in his eyes, or sneezing? Head shaking and gunky ears might be signs. Can you look him over for mites or lice around his head, and the rest of his body? After he roosts in the evening after dark, might be a good time.

His crop function is completely normal. He is eating normally, and his crop is emptying like usual.
I haven't noticed any changes in his weight.

I haven't noticed anything that points to a respiratory disease. He isn't coughing, sneezing, wheezing, or anything like that.
There are no bubbles in his eyes that I've noticed, but I can look more closely tomorrow.
I can check him for mites.

Alright, I checked his eyes and I didn't see any bubbles or anything. I also checked him for mites and saw nothing. I can check him again when it gets dark though.
