Let's go to the Colorado State Fair!

I think I'll go this Sunday (the 26th) and then maybe again on the 1st if it's a lot of fun :)

I live on the north side of Colorado Springs if anyone wants to carpool! I'm planning on leaving here around 8 or so to get there by 9.

I am thinking the same - always completely dependent on what else is happening around the homestead, but I really really want to be there this Sunday - DH thinks I am nuts, but I am interested in seeing how they are judged, and even though the aisles won't be open during judging I'm hoping to get some idea of why one is rated better than another. Also seems like it will be the best opportunity to see the most chickens.

Janelle, I'll also be going Sunday at about the same time (I hope). My days never seem to work on a schedule. I won't be carpooling tho as I never know when I'm gonna be ready to leave. Could meet at the small animal building about 8:45? But if I'm not there, don't wait for me. I hate to say I'm not reliable, but......

Oh I'm the same way, had to wake up early this morning and now I'm wishy-washying about getting up early tomorrow too! I'll be down by 10 at the very latest as it's supposed to be hot in the afternoon. I've never been to Pueblo so it will take me a bit to find my way and park. If you or Pozees still want to meet up can we do it a bit later on? Let's say 10:30 or so same place.

Or if you see me around - I'll be in tan capris and a red top :)

I am still not sure what time I will get there, have to help with some chores at home that didn't get done yesterday so later is probably when I will make it as well. Blue jeans, grey t-shirt, long hair usually tied up with some colored hair ties to keep the blasted stuff off my face, and my big pink flowered purse :) Will look for you at small animal bldg at 10:30, unless I still haven't gotten there ...

Sorry I missed you gals! I had trouble finding the fair (the signs in town said one thing, Google maps said another) and then I didn't get a map at the entrance so I couldn't find the chicken barn. So I probably got to the building around 10:45 or so. Holy moly it was hot out!

TBH I was pretty disappointed by the poultry barn. I'm cross-posting what I wrote in the Colorado thread. Took some pictures of what was there, but what was there wasn't much. I saw a few bantam dominiques though, and SO many bantams and game birds. Noisy little things. I threatened to bring home a new bird but I didn't even see one I wanted. Maybe that nice Welsummer, but she disappeared after judging. There were probably five times as many rabbits as there were chickens. The El Paso County fair in Calhan was much nicer IMO. More birds, less food stands and people hawking things I don't need. I'll probably go back to that one, but not the state fair. It was kind of sad in the building. There were so many empty cages you can tell it used to be a big event, but so many empty rows maybe people don't do it anymore. It would be pretty easy to get a ribbon though I guess.

I think I spent more time looking at the baking/canning displays than I did with the chickens. I think next year I might compete in that, but then I'd have to drive down to Pueblo twice again. BUT I didn't get food poisoning from the $2 corndog I had for lunch, so that was a win at least :)
