Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

Its funny how people over react to animals. Then eat their words. I wish everyone was like that. I think my neighbors are just ignorant control freaks and will never change. The only reason they like guineas is because they heard that they eat ticks, and they like that because they raise pit bulls. They did like my chickens though, only when they were sneaking and roasting 3 or 4 hens at a time. Saw them in their oven and realized when the dog got in their trash that there were feathers in it that went to the chickens that were missing. I thought i had opossums lol

WOW. that takes some *alls. GEESH

MrsMagoo you hit it on the head they are scum. I did get it stopped with the help of another neighbor that raises chickens. She told them that i had tracking chips in my
chickens and that i could use my computer to see where all my chickens were at any time and that one missing hen was showing up near where their septic tank is lmbo shes a very blunt and creative person. Thank goodness that they were niave and believed her. I havent lost a chicken in 8 yrs other than to coons or dogs.

they take as long as 3 full days from internal pip to finally hatching. 24 hours or more from external pip to hatching. Geese are very SLOW going and rest often after making the big milestones in hatching
Hi thought I'd give an update. The first two eggs did die in their eggs, I eventually opened up one of them after a number of hours of inactivity. The inner membrane was stuck all over their heads other wise looked perfectly formed. We have since assisted three others in hatching, reviewing the excellent thesus by the chap from Suffolk, (sorry cannot recall his name) the first gosling ins now under the lamp and a total character the other two are in our brooder. My wife and I spent the whole night slowly wetting then to ease them out.
We have one other, still to pip external although the beak can be viewed from candling so we are being patient and will review again tomorrow.

Cracking site, happy easter.

Sorry about you losing the two goslings Paul. It is difficult to have them so close to hatching, or to actually hatch and then die. I am very glad to hear that you were able to assist the others out of their shells. Staying up all night to wet their membrane was truly a labor of love.

Yes, Pete55's hatching guide is a real life saver: Literally speaking. We all owe him quite a debt of gratitude for graciously posting it here for our use.

Have a wonderful Easter too...our friend over there across the "pond".

Love to see you hatch out some rabbits!

What a fun thread! I can't play as I just stuffed 6 goose eggs in my bator 7 days ago. 5 look good so far. Terribly exciting!

Tons of hatching!

NO way!! Yay! I CAN play! This is my first ever hatch in a bator of ANYThing. A new to me hovabator. Trying not to stress. I have 6 Brown African eggs in there and 12 of my own barnyard mix duck eggs. I am hatching them only because I want to learn how to properly candle, need to test the bator and in case only 1 gosling hatches- it can have a buddy. I candled today and it was amazing to see veins!!

I am hatching Africans too! Wouldn't it be funny if I got a Mexican instead ?

Here is the first gosling of the year. I was scared that he would die in the shell because it had been several days and no change in the crack of the egg, so I helped him out this morning.

I have a neighbor that lives acres away and he HATES my geese....so I am hatching more.

My first 2 little honkers are here and doing great!
2 more pips and 2 more eggs that haven't done anything yet, but were doing great when put into lockdown. We will see.
No worries though.....I have 8 more eggs a cookin' set for hatch next month.

Kuntrygirl When a baby is that week believe it or not I get out a hair dryer get the gosling and put it in a small towel and sit down with a hair dryer and blow the gosling dry with it. For some reason it warms them up faster and help bring that temp up. I have had ones that almost looked dead I had to look and see if they were still breathing. But the hair dryer works great. You use the low warm speed until baby is all the way dry.

My hatch is not going so great. It's day 30 and the first two eggs passed trying to internally pip. Eggtopsy reveals malposition in that head tucked into belly. The last egg looked to be starting to struggle, so I jumped in to try to help. Not sure if this one is positioned wrong or just shrinkwrapped, because its beak is in top middle of egg close to where it should be for pipping. I was able to free beak/nares in time. It gave a big gasp as I opened membrane and stretched its beak open wide gulping in air. It's got a bit of veining in it, so has a long way to go until it is safely hatched out, but it is breathing strong.

I don't screw up hatching it out.

I can not do Eggtospies... I had some Emu eggs that everyone wanted me to do that too... just couldn't bring myself to do it

I can totally ship you some guineas if you want.

Did someone say Guinea Eggs !!!!

Wow....now those are some nervy and scummy neighbors. In my state, chicken thievery may still be a hanging offense and I guarantee I would be buying the rope myself. I sure hope you got that stopped!

Okay now its official do not Mess with Magoo!!!!

Good luck !!!!

Here are all of the babies that hatched. I thought that I had 4 fertile eggs but I only had 3 fertile eggs and all 3 eggs hatched. The other 8 eggs were not fertile. i will move them to the brooder tomorrow.

I have to give credit to the OP for starting this thread and to EVERYONE who contributed to this thread and asked and answered questions for all of us to learn. THIS thread is an active learning thread and I would have NOT been able to hatch these babies if it were not for this thread and everyone who contributed to it. It was because of you all that I know how to hatch goose eggs. So thank EVERYONE on this thread who posted information on "how to". And to everyone who asked questions. It was because of YOUR questions and the answers/responses given that I learned what I have. THANK YOU EVERYONE again.

And here are my very first goose eggs that I hatched in my Brinsea incubator.

Great job and beautiful babies. Now it is time to load that incubator up again and start all over again!

Congrads kunrtygirl on the new goslings. But do not forget the hair dryer trick I mentioned. It really helps and the babies snap right out of the funck.....
HAPPY EASTER.
