My second egg is in the process of hatching. Fingers are crossed for gosling number 2 by the end of the day. I am about to candle my eggs again. I should have 2 more ready to move to the hatcher in the next day or two.

It is externally pipped now. Early this morning! It can be a couple days after that before they hatch right? I know ducks take a little while.

Okay please if you would, explain to those who don't know the difference between an icubator and a hatcher, since I've never hatched egg other than by a broody I have no idea what your talking about. Thanks.

:Lots of great stuff going on this morning!!!

Welcome to the thread, farmergirl and congrats to setting eggs!

Jen, It usually takes 24-36 hours from internal pip to external pip, then another 24+ hours from external pip to zip. Zipping is usually fast, taking 1-3 hours to complete.

Lydia, hatchers are often no different than incubators, although preferably a hatcher does not have a fan. Since you need 75% humidity for hatching, those of us doing staggered hatches have one incubator set at 25-35% and then move eggs over to the other incubator when they get ready to hatch (ie internally pip).

When I left this morning for dialysis I checked the eggs and there are 4 pipped. I got home and two have hatched and are still in the incubator drying off!
I took a picture of the two but you can hardly see it. It is blurr. I told my husband to keep an eye on the eggs while I was at dialysis. Told him do not let the goslings get into the water in the bowl in there. So I ask how they were and he got up and went into my bedroom to check. I was not happy when I seen they had been in the water it has blood in it. So please excuse the water it was clean this morning. Men.
