Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

Some ducks are even 26 days. Right now I have a Runner duck and a Sebastopol goose egg that pipped within a couple hours of eachother. I've been putting the ducks in there just in case I have a bad hatch and only get one goose to hatch. At least they'd have a buddy that speaks a similar language for a while.

Speaking of language- I am reading Konrad Lorenz's "Here Am I- Where Are You? The behavior of the Greylag Goose" (recommended by a BYCer) and apparently in Germany baby geese say "Vee-vee-vee-vee". All this time I have been saying "wee-wee weep!"

Didn't sleep very good last night! This goose is loud! And it's still in its shell! lol. Day 29 and the hole is bigger, but no zipping yet. Looks like the other egg due two days after this one might have quit :(. No movement and the air cell is the same. It still has lots of veins, so maybe.....

I can put a couple ducklings in with this one until another goose hatches.

I get eggs everyday from my chickens and ducks and I'm still looking at egg auctions! I really do think its an addiction.

My ducks usually hatch in 27-28 days and geese in 29-31 days (depending on breed).

Goose, I'm setting my ancona trio's eggs with my goose eggs for "just in case", too. Don't want to brood solo goslings!

Jen, it is very common for goslings to spend 24 hours turning their initial pip into a hole. It almost looks like they are stuck and cannot rotate, but that is normal. if your 2nd egg is 2 days behind and still has veins, it is probably ok.

Congrats to everyone whose geese have started laying and all those with new goslings!

My second egg had a much easier time and hatched during the night last night. The new gosling is bigger than the first one even though it was in a smaller egg.
Here are the season's first two Pomeranian goslings.
