Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

Pete, if you are worried about moisture issues, then I'm super nervous now that mine will hatch ok. As for breaking up nests, that will be easier said than done with my grey girl. She is super sneaky about when she leaves nest (if she even leaves), so I'd have to forcefully remove her to block the box. This is her set up:

Good morning, Jasmine. Bet you are happy to read Pete's advice about me continuing to take all of my dewlap girls' eggs.

Pretty sure you know who Peanut is by now. The white pair are:

The grey dewlap egg is from the 4-pack yard, but not sure which pair?

Beautiful !!!!!!!! Good luck with everything. I don't wish that problem on anyone. I'll be praying for you. I hope you make it out alive. :gig Gotta love the kiddie pools. :love

I have one Seb gosling out! I woke up around 1:00 a.m. last night and saw it progressing. I watched it hatch, but didn't get back to bed until around 4:00. Ugh.

I'm a little unsure about one of them. He kind of pipped close to the middle of the egg, a little below the air cell. He's not zipping, so much as making a big hole. This morning his head was hanging out of the egg and I was worried that he would get hurt. I made the hole bigger so he could get his head back "in." He also looks a little "goopy" so I'm wondering if he didn't lose enough moisture. This afternoon will be 48 hrs since he externally pipped. Should I just carefully help him hatch if he's not out by the time I get home this evening? If it was a duckling, I probably would. Should I treat this like I would an assisted duckling hatch or is there something I should do different with goslings?

Hi. Difficult to judge just by description but I have covered the basics of assisted hatching on other threads. Just check under my profile. 48 hours post EP is a little excessive.

Before intervening I would assess for absorption of blood vessels and yolk sac using a good pen torch.

Finally are you sure this baby is correctly positioned? Or the gosling may have EP early due to inadequate moisture loss. The goopy appearence suggests prematurity.

This is not going to easy and I wish you best of luck.

Pete. ;)

Oh my Janet -- I don't envy you at all on trying to get that broody hissy beast off that nest!!

Good luck with the impending hatches! Did you ever get a new incubator???

Tell me about it!

I'm still running the damaged styro still airs from last year, if you can believe it. I will be buying a much nicer bator well before next season, though! Any new hatchlings on your end???

OMG that white pair is to die for. They are SO PRETTY!

Congrats on the 1st gosling!! Pics?? As for the other gosling, it sounds like the one I lost last week. It internally/externally pipped below air cell, but moved its way into position to crack external pip in proper location. It had made a big hole and was acting strong 27 hours post external pip, then suddenly passed away. It was very surprising and bummed me out. In hindsight, I wish I would have assisted it.
