Lets Make A New Bantam Chicken!

It takes a long time to get a breed recognized.. and if you just keep breeding different breeds every time, then it's only going to end up into a very mixed bred bird. They have to breed true inorder to be a breed. Anytime you mate one breed with another (such as the polish and rock) then it's just a mix. Not showable and not a breed.

OK, forgive me, consideration by who? I'm not sure there is even anyone who is a member of BYC who is on the board of APA. Don't hold me to that, I could be completely wrong about that, but if they are on the board they're not functioning in an official capacity. BYC doesn't have a group of people that is connected with APA and operating in that role so we don't have that kind of jurisdiction. We can offer opinions which is exactly what we've been doing, but that's as far as it goes. That is not to discount the importance or the weight of those opinions, because I consider them to be life savers - literally, and nearly everything I've learned I received from members of BYC, but we don't operate as APA agents.
I'm really sorry to shoot that idea down, but I just don't see how it would work.

Certainly you can try to come up with your own new kind of bantam. But I think you need to decide a few things about it. Heres some of the stuff to consider even before you can choose your breeds to start crossing/working with:

1. Size
2. Feathering (Clean-legged/feathered)
3. Color (s)
4. Purpose (layer/duel/exhibition)

You might want to try to work with some existing breeds which need improvement towards thier breed standard. Or, helping to create a new color of Cochin is fun. If you want to experiment with something for fun, how about Easter Eggers? A lot of people have expressed an interest in developing barred or feather legged easter egger. they wouldn't be an APA breed, but could be a fun project to try out?

Both are small and about the same size and same color, just different feathering. I'm hoping for a sizzle with their coloring. Hopefully not his temperament. He has a bad attitude. He definitely knows what to do. He was getting down to business before they had a chance to get acquainted.

Oh my..............I just got the word from big medicine about how much I just showed my ignorance and embarrassed myself. Well, i'd like a small bird that is a good layer and that is for show, Bantam only too. maybe a light breed. any color.

no, no, one that is good in the winter, and can at least come in barred, partridge, white creasted black (if it has a creast), black, and maybe if posible silver duck wing (thats my favorite chicken color.)
