Let's plan a Quail egg hatch... set 'em Sept. 1, hatch 'em Sept 17-19+

I wish I had some of these you guys talk about! Mine are boring, I carry a .40 and .380 in my truck. have a .357, 20 gauge, and my Dads antique .22 next to my bed. 2 small .22s in the barn for rats or flying predators. Need more!

So... are you guys setting your eggs in the morning or evening of Sept 1?
Has anyone else noticed, if set in the morning, they hatch during the day, set at night, they keep me up all night.

Ill set mine before work at 5am.

I like to set mine in the mornin when I get up. usually about 6 ish... never noticed a difference in when they hatch. But mine are generally in a spare bed room too. I dont hear to well so I never know till I peek in the hatcher window. but sweet baby has bionic ears, she has woke me up say'n, "we have more BIRDS in the house!!!" Bill

A .17 will tear a squirrel to pieces. If you want to see something blow up then shoot a bird with a nitro turkey in a turkey choke out of a 10 or 12 gauge. Trust me, there won't be much left.

I shot a possum with my bow 2 nights ago and I found it yesterday. The arrow was still in it and he died right next to the quail pen, about 50 yards from where I shot him. Not this time possum.

starting to gather the Quail eggs...

10 days to go...

will put them in a cooler with an iced water bottle like Dr. _Randall_

may weigh them today and at setting and again at lockdown to see how much weight lost from sitting, incubating, etc.

I'll start gathering tomorrow, I'll set them in a freezer that isn't working. It's in a basement and the thermometer reads 57 in the freezer. I'll plug in my new bator tonight to give it a test run. I got it from a friend a few weeks ago, it's an old hova bator that's been setting in an attic for 10 years. It turned on before, let's hope it does now.

Oh yeah, I was gonna ask, what is the correct holding temp for eggs? I usually just keep them on the counter, but I know that is too warm, especially since I keep my house at 82 (yeah, Im one of them that is always cold and love the heat.

I have a little wine cooler where I am aging my (homemade goat milk) cheese. I have it at 60. Would that be better than 82 countertop? I collected my first ones tonight too. I have 89 in the bator due to hatch this weekend, so will be perfect timing.
