Let's plan a Quail egg hatch... set 'em Sept. 1, hatch 'em Sept 17-19+

Well it looks like I'm out.

I plugged up my LG and it wouldn't heat. I plugged in the hova bator that has been in an atic for 10 years and it ran for about a minute and cut out. I looked at both of them and couldn't find the problem so unless I can rig something together soon I'm gonna have to set this one out.

I candled my 5 dozen coturnix eggs that were shipped to me, 15 were clears, i think 10 may be later stage blood rings, that leaves 35 that have hope of hatching... fingers crossed! But 35 is quite manageable lol, i don't feel so guilty now setting a small amount to hatch along with you guys lol! I've got 10 jumbo goldens, 1 of my weird golden x jumbo brown, and 2 or 3 of my jumbo rosetta so far, hoping to set about 20-30 eggs.... unfortunately there is a fair on Thursday, birds have to be in Wednesday night, so that might cut down on my collecting a bit, but only by a day!

Heck, i still have to process the extra jumbo browns that i was gonna do earlier this week (happy birthday your 8 weeks old today lol), and finish our big outdoor turkey pen/tractor "Turkopolis".... Any one got a day stretcher?!

I like your scouting report and egg collecting project and I must see this "Turkopolis" any plans for a "Quailopolis"?

also, not trying to start anything, but really hope your "red wheaten"

X brown works out, I will be watching that one. I been thinking about that Quailculus formula, how does that work? the red is the dominant, right? the fawn dilute makes a manchurian with 1 copy and an italian with 2 copies? so... I hope this is where Alex QLOFM jumps in, but it almost seems like your bird has 3 zones of feathers, top zone, mid zone and bottom/wings, again, reminds me of a wheaten amearaucana rooster in alot of ways, but it may just be one of a kind...your lucky, she is a very pretty bird.

I'm still trying to decide what she is... shes got to have that manchurian gene to have no breast spots... clearly golden too... but the feather pattern is in between british range and pharo/wild type....

For those who haven't seen the thread on her, here are 2 photos:

The feathers along her back where they meet the wings that are mostly black with a pencil line of brownish gold, she had a bunch more of those but as she grew to maturity she lost those in favor of the bold gold barred ones... I should see about getting an updated photo in the morning...

At any rate, because i don't have the parents to guess at what went into making her i will probably try 2 test matings, first with the wild type jumbos, 2nd with the british range assuming that i don't get the results with the first 1. I can also try crossing a male back to her from the first breeding to see if that produces them. Gives me an excuse to hatch out lots of babies lol. but means i need to track em better lol.

Turkopolis is a portable hoop style tractor for my turkeys. Its about half way done now, framing is all in base is done, hoops are up, just need to attach fencing, tarp and door oh and do some touch up painting. its 12' wide by 16' long and 6'6 tall in the center. Once this is done and the turkeys are evicted from the barn, Quailtopia comes to the drawing board lol. I have no actual fancy plans, its just a mouse proof brooder/grow out pen i need to build in the next week and a half lol!

basic plan is to have a pen 8' long by 2-3'wide. I want a removable divider too. The idea is to confine them to one side while brooding then give them run. will also allow me to separate it to do smaller broods if need be or what have you, i like options, what can i say lol. I have some rough sketches, i just need to finish 1 project before i start the next lol. Make matters worse i hurt my back on thursday night so been a bit slow. Did i mention there's a fair in 4 days!? I need to give up on sleep i think lol.

thanks, i should get a current side shot, her wings have the prettiest barring on them! Now you can see why i want to make more!
