Let's plan a Quail egg hatch... set 'em Sept. 1, hatch 'em Sept 17-19+

Good grief, don't get me started! My quail from the last hatch are still in the brooder and they are going to start laying any day!:-D I need a quail pen, quickly. Maybe I will make a tractor for them.

20 minutes later you have an incubator. They have styro ice chests all over the place on sale. At least 50% off in most places. You can do the whole thing for less than 15 bucks if you find on old lamp for parts.

that method works much easier than you think... Tractor supply sells Little giants if you have a TCS near by... i have 2 LG one for my egg turner and fan for incubation...the other for hatching(no turner[just cartons] and no fan).. eggs are transfered from my turner bator into my hatcher bator.. set on cartons 3 days prior to hatch.. i also have made a cooler bator and hatched 7/12 eggs from it first try.. i just made a mini fridge bator after the cooler bator trial and 2 days ago hatched 100% in EE eggs.. 5/5. it worked like a charm! i still think my LG set up is perfect and wouldnt mess with/alter a thing to it. i just wanted to make my own to say i did it! and that i did. so if your really eager kid i would attempt to build yourself and incubator.

p.s. the only thing i would add to the above post is a small PC fan so the air is constantly flowing.

Have 3 of them in my garage. The cooler bators that is. I asked for an old TV from my neighbors to bouild one from that and never got to it. Anyone what a TV?

Oh and only one of the coolers has a fan. I actually like still air at times.

Still airs are better for hatchers but they work pretty good if you keep them full

I wish I had looked at the calendar closer too. I like to set eggs on a Tuesday, so they hatch over the weekend when I am home. lol Setting on Thursday, I just might have to take Monday off from work.

I just had 63 hatch this weekend. Am collecting eggs from my 9 adult gals (w/ 2 roos), so getting about 7 a day. I have a group of 9 week old's who are laying nicely now. Getting 35-40 eggs a day from them - so I will fill my bator to capacity (120), on the 1st!!

I have sent my eggies out to those that needed them by the 1st. Praying they arrive safe and sound. I am not much on BYC due to time constraints and the biddies and birds are keeping me very busy! PLEASE USPS TREAT THE EGGS WITH RESPECT!!!

26 eggs...I split up my hens and now am only collecting from the larger 2, they are in the brooder at eye level with me now, so I have been scutinizing them closely.

I should have 30 eggs, whats the consensus, would you set eggs that you collect on the 1st?

I plan on setting them earlier than later that day...

and do we have a set time for those still setting on the 1st?

would like to see how many start to hatch at around same time.

42 so far, but it's hot today, so not sure if I'll get anything, but with 12 if they all lay, I'll have 56. Not a single egg yet from the youngsters. At least this is more than I expected. I figured I was good if I got 20.
