Hmmm, I put mine up on a thin piece of cardboard. They peck at it, but that's all. It hasn't really stopped it so much. But changing out the water due to shavings is SOOO annoying!

I'll hang mine once they are outside, put blocks around for them to stand on. I imagine the concrete cleans better than the wood.

Not to beat a dead horse, but just adding my experience to those who have found that raising the height or switching to nipples works. I have had success with both.
