Let's see a show of hands.........

Ugh, yes - a hundred times yes!

Little buggers always think its a cool idea to jump right in - I swear, I must have gotten ducks for banties! I usually put fishbowl stones in my brooder waterers, so they can't fall in (or jump in, as they do) and get deathly cold. My chicken trough is the worst though, two gallon feeders for 20 babies up on 4x4" blocks and they still kick shavings in like little star athletes. I'm having to change the waterers in the trough and the brooder paper easily three times a day.

I see that it's already been said a couple of times but it's worth repeating, switch to nipple waterers and never worry about shavings or poop or whatever getting in the water again. I love them and wish I would have known about them with my first batch of chicks. I can't say enough good things about them.

And thats why I built the riser of 2x4 's they are in stages the bigger they get the higher the riser gets I love it but I still keep a bucket next to it cause if they have enough water in the waterer I just dump the shavings into the bucket and put the waterer back.

I have no affiliation with this place. I just Googled to find out what a nipple waterer was and found it.

I think that the pic at the bottom says it all.

I think that a system like this is in the girls future. I moved them to the coop late yesterday and hang the feeder and waterer off of the floor. This morning was the first time in days that it hasn't been filled with shavings.

When I come home, there is SOOOOOOO much shavings in the waterer I have to check to see if there's any left on the floor!

I have checked out the above post on the nipple waterer and think I will try that since my chicks are only a couple of weeks old and should catch on quickly. Much better for all of us.

I got tierd of it as well. I tried raising the water first which seam to help but then they really started to get the scratching thing going on and I still had to clean it out pretty offten. I broke down and made a few nipple waterers which have worked out great.

Mine has defiantly cleared up by using wood pellets and raised water. Those nipple bottles look great. Is it to late to train my girlies to do tricks? Those look so cool.
