Lets talk about goats!

If you are positive on the bred date, she's probably just one of those does that gets mucus and loses tail ligs early. :)

Short of some crazy through-the-fence contortion type moves, she had no exposure prior to Sept 12th. No breeding was actually witnessed with this doe but judging from all of her signs, he probably bred her within the first day or two.

Hmmm ... At most today is day 134. Looks JUST LIKE MY DOE!!!

This was this morning. She was exposed to buck x 3 weeks.

These are my ND goat wethers Smokey and Buford. They will be turning 1 in Feb. I was wondering if anyone here knew anything about showing wethers in 4-H. Would I just show them in showmanship or is there a different class for them...? Any help about showing goats in general would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

And Smokey

I did read about showing weathers. I think from my ADGA paperwork. Some weathers are born from exceptional breeding lines. Their conformation is excellent, but maybe born out of a first freshener. So to increase popularity, and attention to the unsung heroes (the weathers) they are starting a show class for junior members. Don't quote me on my info, since this doesn't really apply to me. I just remember reading it, and thinking what a great idea it was! Weathers have nice advantages. The price is always better, they don't stink like buck, and are so sweet!
Good luck, and I'm glad to hear your kids are getting into showing (kids taking pride in their farm animals)

This isn't meant to be rude. "Weather" involves rain, snow, temperature, clouds, etc.
"Wethers" are neutered male goats.

Is anyone here seasoned with delivering goat babies?
I need some advise if my gal is getting close. I had my buck with her for 3 weeks, so I don't know exactly what day she was bred. If she was bred on day 1, then today would be day 146 for my ND.

Check her ligaments, watch for signs of udder development, watch for her sides to hollow out.
She can safely deliver any time after day 145.
What are your specific questions?

My biggest question is when I need to expect babies... Its cold, and I don't want to miss it. Since I have this 3 week window, its hard to be prepared. She is a ff, and this is my first time having goat babies.
I'm not clear in checking for ligaments. I know they are by the tail, and I've watched a video on it but without feeling myself, I'm not confident I know what I'm feeling. She has a little but of an udder. Its the size of two tennis balls above each teat. She is a big heavy goat to begin with, so sides sinking in is also hard to see. She looks "dropped" with her belly only about an inch off the ground...
I'm a nervous wreck.
