Lets talk about goats!

I feel like these goats are always sick. Just got home from vacation and one of my goats has a big lump uner his ear on neck. Is it cl automatically!! What do I do. I'll call vet in am but will it be okay if I get it treated right away. We only have the two with no intention of getting more right now. Have to look over Stetson too.

:( sorry you're still having trouble! Is it where his neck meets his chin? Could very well be milk neck if that is the case. If it were to be CL someone on here posted some really cool treatment protocol that they used- no "culling" involved. Not that you would need to do that with just having the two boys anyways.

I'm new to goats as well so that's about all I've got :/ best of luck at the vet tomorrow! Keep us updated!

To add- after reading more about milk neck it seems unlikely now because he is weaned, right? Now I'm really not helping! Sorry!

Hi sannabelle,
I was wondering if nigerian dwarf goats are for milk? If so will I have to milk her? I might get a couple of females.

Yeah, the primary "practical" function of ND goats is for their milk. You don't "have" to milk them, unless you were to buy a mama goat in milk with no kids. Are you wanting to have kids? Or just have the goats for companions?

No do not have any boy goats, so no we would not have kids, that is what I thought thanks so much for your help!

How long do I have before the thing on his neck could burst!? I just got home from vacation and I'm supposed to work in am and im not sure if vet will be able to see me first thing in am. Hubby doesn't know for sure when he got it. I know he didnt have it Fri because I was dealing with that dandruff and I would have seen it.

I can't imagine it would burst after four days....maybe if you're concerned in the mean time put some gauze and medical tape over it? Unless you want to separate him from your other boy until you can have a test ran? :/ sorry you had to come home to that. I saw your post in a duck thread too, you're not having an easy time over there at all.

No its been a rough weekend or month in general. Also have a first time possible broody Muscovy that made a nest in the middle of a 20ft long cement culvert that was left on our property. Thought she was missing so at least I found her but I can't reach her and I'm not sure how to protect her at night.
Calling vet first thing in am. I was feeling up Stetson my other boy and found a small lump on his lip. No where near the same size as Ford. Not even sure if it is the same thing but of course I'm worried about it too. Hoping we vet it taken care of right away.
