Lets talk about goats!

He's already home. Not sure how to keep him high and dry and calm with rain and two little boys crying for him. I am always nervous about infection in anything so I'm sure I'll be a nervous wreck all week. Was only $100 bucks so thats cool. He looks a little mad at me....

We just banded our bucklings two weeks ago and aside from us feeling bad, it was super easy and very economical! The day after they were not feeling great so we gave them each a dose of baby aspirin, and after that they've been totally fine.

The next bucklings we have I will probably get some banamine ahead of time from the vet for them.

Poor little dude. I felt so bad for my boys so I know how you probably feel.

Everything I've read said an antiseptic like blue kote is totally fine and won't cause problems. I put betadine on my boys right after but the flies are leaving them alone and they're healing up just fine so far.

He seemed pretty rough all day. Came out for a little bit and started bleeding a little bit. Got him blue coated and gave him a baby asperin. Also gave him a shot of vitamin b I had here from Ford. Hoping he's feeling a little bit better tomorrow. He at least cuddled with me today .

I just got my first goats yesterday. One, a 4 year old Nubian doe, the other a 1.5 year Nubian/Boer cross doe. I built a 1000sqft pen for them and plan on giving them controlled access to 2.5 acres of scrub. The previous owner fed them alfalfa with some D.E. nothing else. First day I offered them Timothy and alfalfa. They ignored the timothy, picked at the alfalfa, but ate from the available brush and tree leaves in their pen. I do not plan to feed grain until they are in milk. How should I offer them the D.E. and the MannaPro Goat Mineral? I thought of mixing it in with a small amount of oats or something once per day. I am weary of free feeding the mineral as they only need 1/4 to 1/2 ounce per day. Suggestions? I am hoping that alfalfa will become a small part of their diet and they can browse for what they want throughout the day.

Suggestions on feeding?

Beautiful goats. Why DE may I ask? I use a natural wormer for mine but don't use DE for anyone other than my fowl.

I would offer the minerals free choice. They're not going to take what they don't need. I would also offer baking sode side by side with the minerals.

I would I give them grains in the later part of their pregnancies also, as well as when they are in milk :)
