Let's talk Cuckoo and WHITE marans... breeding strategies...

Can anyone here tell me the genotype on a golden cuckoo marans... mine are the light type, so I am getting that he most likely homozygous for the barring gene. I am also trying to understand what makes them autosexing... its not just the barring...something else is going on too and I sure would like to understand.
from the Australian Marans site:

Genome of the male being ER/ER or eWh/eWh or e+/e+ s+/s+ B/B Id/Id W/W Pti-1/Pti-1 and that of the hen ER/ER or eWh/eWh or e+/e+ s+/- B/B Id/- W/W Pti-1/Pti-1

I'm certainly no expert, but I'll take a stab at it. I'm sure there are others that may want to correct me. But for what else makes them autosexing- I think the gold (s+) gene helps autosexing if I remember correctly. if they were salmon cuckoo (e+) gene that would help also--but I think most golden cuckoos are not e+ from what I can gather.

Thank you for the response...

So the e locus can be birchen, wheaten or wild type? birchen makes the most sense to me

The B is for the barring, which is sex linked so the female has one, the male can have one or two

s+ is for gold, also sex linked so the female is either gold or black while the roos can have one of each which I have seen in the silver birchen type... the s+ carriers have gold highlights

Id is leg color, mine are light/whitish pink, not yellow

W is for white skin

Pti-1, feathered legs

still doesn't get at why they are autosexing... something modifies the color so the chicks are different and it is more than just barring. Would love to know.

After seeing Hornbeam Poultry's Lemon Cuckoo Marans ( he doesn't have them anymore ) and how they threw numerous Wheatons when inbred by the elder Mr. Rau ( to his consternation) , I am convinced the lighter Golden Cuckoos are eWh based.

My new Whites from Ernie have started to lay and wow what a nice color! After they lay for a bit I will get some pictures up!!
Glad to know that your Whites have started laying. I hope that you enjoy them as much as we do. They are still a work in progress. We feel blessed to have been able to get our start of Whites when we did.

Thanks,
Ernie Haire

They are very hit ad miss right now. Give me a break :p Seriously I will get pics up in about a week when they are laying regular. It seems they will be giving me 4's & 5's I could not be happier!

I think I have 1 cuckoo pullet that same age nothing yet. I still have to test mate her. She is with my CCL roo so that should do it and make me some Sexable Olive Eggers too LOL. I love dual purpose test mating

My weekend is going to full moving some birds around... but kinda excited to get them moved... even if it means eating eggs for 3 weeks from 2 pens.

Thank you for the note on this... much appreciated... me thinks this is going to be a long term project for me... maybe some test crosses... it will be interesting. I do know I prefer the light... which is not the direction others are taking.... but atleast figuring out the underlying genes will be of value.

Hey Y'all....I was hoping someone could help me identify my " Mystery Exotic" chick. I narrowed it down to a CC Marans or a Dominique. If anyone has strong feelings in either direction I'd be Very Grateful!! Also any ideas either way on gender?? I read they can be sexed as a new chick?? I'm so confused....
