Let's talk Cuckoo and WHITE marans... breeding strategies...

does he have a strait comb or a flat rose comb??? also with that white spot on his head he is a boy...

Hey Y'all....I was hoping someone could help me identify my " Mystery Exotic" chick. I narrowed it down to a CC Marans or a Dominique. If anyone has strong feelings in either direction I'd be Very Grateful!! Also any ideas either way on gender?? I read they can be sexed as a new chick?? I'm so confused....

I can't tell from the pic but Dominiquers have rose combs..... marans straight combs.

What's better/more popular to keep to make mixed-breed chickens, a DARK cuckoo maran rooster or the traditional LIGHT ones?

Usually a Dark cuckoo roo only has one copy if the barring gene. At my place I will not use a dark roo with one copy. You also don't want a roo that is too light. Nice even color all over.

What breed does the spot mean Roo?? In the descriptions I googled both the girls and boys had the spot but the size and concentration of the spot seemed to be a weak indicator of gender. One site said dark legs meant female, black and not gray meant female but faded dot meant Roo....this is where I was hopeful 2 out of 3 meant girl. Haaaa also when you say come, all that appears to be there is nostrils, no ridge of any kind??!??

Hope this helps.....I Love my Mystery Chick, just dreading the idea of having to re home if its another Roo! How long do they get along together if they grow up together usually??

Hey look at this silver cuckoo chick. (ErEr)

I also have a Standard Cuckoo pullet pic to share....the cockerels will not hold still!

I can't wait to see the Silver grown I haven't had a male for a while.
