Let's talk Cuckoo and WHITE marans... breeding strategies...

Can anyone tell me at what age the GC start to lay?? My girls are almost 6 months old and really red but no eggs yet.

All my Marans seem to take a little longer that other breeds but at 6 mos. you are right on top of it I wouldthink. Is her comb getting redder?

They will be 6 months in about another week.

Keep an eye out they may lay in odd places to start I have found pullet eggs in many strange places like water bowls, feed pan, roof of coop

they may hide them at first too. Good Luck and hope they are dark!

Does anyone else notice that thier golden cuckoos seem to lay later than the bcms, etc. Mine lay more at a wheaten age 6 1/2 to 7 mos or so. Whereas the bcms, blues, blue coppers laid more at the 5 1/2 mos age. Also I notice on the female golden cuckoos that thier voices sound more raucous/ wild bird sounding (for lack of a better term) than the other bcms I have and they are more flighty in general. The males aren't flighty though.

I have whites. I am keeping them at my uncle's because the roo is meaner than my others. I don't have any pictures of them but I have three hens at home for my color projects I can get photos of. So far I only have two white chicks that I am keeping and one two splash from my hens.

I also have eggs in the bator for next years brood from a man in PA that raises them he is crossing them with cucus right now to darken the egg.

My whites eggs second year layers. They seemed shinier last year but the color seems to be holding well.

The right nine are the whites, these are second year layers too. I am praying I get a decent hatch on them! I will see next week!!

I noticed that mine laid later too. I have also noticed that they get broody more often with mine. I have one old girl that MUST set on some eggs or she is intolerable. So I put her to work with a dozen from the other hens.

Beautiful eggs!!! OMG please don't tell me they go broody more than the BCMs lol. I am gonna go nuts with all these crazy hens trying to go broody over here this spring as it is haha.
