Let's talk Golden Cuckoo Marans!

I know your F0 has a colored shoulder . he is nicely marked only a problem we are saying some thing is making this copper to go so diluted .

the single barred cockerel hasn t got the shoulder color at all . that worries me .

your F2 double barred cockerel has a colored shoulder like his grand father F0 and he tend to carry the same mutation or gene too .

I m finding your work subject very interesting .

I was examining the single barred without the copper shoulders, he is starting to develop some:

I really think it is a matter of time with him.

I have the brown pullet that is starting to looked laced too. If I had room, I'd breed them to see if the lacing would be passed. I know there are 4 or so genes that control that and 1 missing will cause the bird to not be laced.

Another interesting thing, the really light double barred is starting to get the copper orange shoulders:

he is sublime . for my test I think the standard should went for this type of coloration . absolutely stunning cockerel.

he is well colored as far as the pattern go . he ll be like the F0 . carrying the same gene .

he is thick and solid .great type .

Would it be in my best interest to retain this one and try to breed for this coloration? I like the way he looks.

my friend if you keep loosing the red /orange shoulder soon you will say good by the golden hackle on the pullet . a same problem we are having with a black coppers .

you can go for a darker or lighter gold is just a personal test but the colored shoulder is must have . part of they genome .

I like your cockerel but I have seen you have/had a better one . they where nicely marked .

good luck

Is this what has happened to these two pullets? They came from the same hatch that produced the nice gold colored necked pullets.

Should I keep these, or pass them off?

I seem to have run into a decision point. I got some blue and splash chicks from Bev Davis lines, and ended up with one blue copper pullet, one blue copper cockerel, one splash copper pullet and one splash copper rooster. I don't know if I should keep him or not.

I was wanting to possibly use the splash hen to get all blue barred GCMs.

I have until spring to make a decision, as they are running in 2 separate free ranging flocks now.

I think he is stunning though:
