Let's talk Golden Cuckoo Marans!

Would it be in my best interest to retain this one and try to breed for this coloration? I like the way he looks.

very nice looking cockerel . I like this light golden color my self can be bred true as well ,because is showing up quite easy .

as long as his shoulders are colored witch are is good , the tone of the copper is still open different test .

it is so rare like you said even the French club ( standard posted the single barred rooster ). because they can t find one .

he is great type . I like the way he carries him self nice and tall . broad chest .

I told you before I like your strain .they are broader .thicker and solidly build plus well put together .

keep doing what are you doing ,you are in the right truck .

Is this what has happened to these two pullets? They came from the same hatch that produced the nice gold colored necked pullets.

Should I keep these, or pass them off?

like I said before if the rooster have a orange/red shoulder and clear ear tuft .he will put a hackle back on his daughters . they come from the same hatch doesn t mean they have a same gene mapping ,because they still a product of a crossing not stable yet. that what you have to do my friend ,breed them true .

if you pullet without hackle lay a nice eggs for sure we can breed them back to the F0 or f2 double barred .they ll throw good portion of the pullets with nice hackles .

they genetic and the way we should work with them is a same as a black copper just an extra barring gene that all .

I seem to have run into a decision point. I got some blue and splash chicks from Bev Davis lines, and ended up with one blue copper pullet, one blue copper cockerel, one splash copper pullet and one splash copper rooster. I don't know if I should keep him or not.

I was wanting to possibly use the splash hen to get all blue barred GCMs.

I have until spring to make a decision, as they are running in 2 separate free ranging flocks now.

I think he is stunning though:

I like his chest but not his back is curved inward . you cockerels are mile nicer and have a nice body type . I ll use the pullets but not the cockerels if I was you . you F0 has proven to throw a solid and correct marans type chooks ,why shop some where else . i like you idea about using a splash pullet over your GCM to get 15 BGCM . that will work.

That's what I thought. I just needed someone else to tell me that. Thanks for the critique though.

I'm really liking the dark base coloration of my hens. It seems to be present in all of them. Just gotta get the gold necks to show. I'll probaby hang on to them until the spring here. My rooster load is a little high and they give me more hawk insurance.

good man if I was you I ll keep them .it is not hard to put a hackles on the girls ,but it very hard to achieve the body type they have .

I like them a lot .chunky and solidly build .

yeah I can see . you only need the presence of the color. with a time and more growth to do ,he ll color up .

he is a solid type

He's getting a little more brown feathers on the shoulders. I'm thinking of retaining him instead of my F2 double barred. He's also an F2 single barred, has a lot nicer comb and considerably bigger. The F2 single barred is on the small side. I'll give him until spring to see though.

F2 single that I'm thinking on not retaining:
