Our first eggs this week. I'm pretty sure the lighter one is from our pullet with yellow skin. I was disappointed to see these eggs were lighter than the ones the pullets hatched from. Will they darken up in the spring? Or did we just get some bad genes?

My girls always start off laying light eggs and then the eggs darken up after awhile. I have one GCM pullet that lays darker eggs than my BCMs and she started off laying eggs that I almost thought were Orp eggs, though the breeds are in separate areas. Give them time and they'll get darker.

Does anyone here seriously breed gcms? Is there a good outcross to lighten up the hen neck feathers?
