Let's talk Golden Cuckoo Marans!

Pics
the phenotype are the one we looking for . the best Golden cuckoo marans should be ER/ER like a silver cuckoo to get well balanced cuckoo pattern with a golden color just on the huckel .sattle and back the rest of the body should stay Slver/grey cuckoo pattern.

any person using a Black copper parent will end up having the right phenotype in the end.

I agree, I prefer the hens to have the cuckoo body with the gold necks, not the brownish body with the gold necks.

He s stunning looking Rooster.

I know Bev s I follow here work and I m impressed with what she donne with a marans in the USA .
Great respect for that woman. Great Breeder. here work inspired me to start with a marans breed because I like to work with one breed and I like the different varieties . The Marans breed deliver that.

This appears incorrect to me :

Is this the difference between the e+ and the ER with the hens? The rooster appears to only have 1 barring gene.

Yeah the Cuckoo hen should be a Birchen hen with a Barring/cuckoo gene, that for a a proper silver cuckoo marans OR Black copper Hen with a Barring/cuckoo gene.
Genome will be ; Silver cuckoo marans;ER/ER .S/S for the cock and ER/ER . S/- for the girls
Golden Cuckoo marans; ER/ER. s+/s+ for the cock and ER/ER. s+/- for the girls.

I m working with a French Maran Club to develop both cuckoo variety Silver and Golden. Started with one Silver Cuckoo Marans Rooster Imported from England ( no feathered legs )

a lot work need to be done to breed them recording the the French standard. I ll get there one day.

Hi Buckabucka Gorgeous Golden Cucko Maran rosster you ve got. nice color and pretty face. shame the hens like to pick on his toes feathers.

Thanks. He is pretty as long as you don't study his legs.

@chickie, glad you are excited for eggs! What exactly is "mossiness" anyway? I crossed my GCM rooster with a wheaten Ameraucana. Does this Olive egger have mossiness? Just curious what it means...

Hi Chickee . I see now where this gorgeous bird come from. you should be proud of them. I will if I had them.

yeah you can X to the wheaten no problem with a mossiness .Barring/ cuckoo gene will take care of that.

I m working with a progeny F1 .Father Silver Cuckoo marans .Mothers Wheaten hens. gorgeous F1 pullets no mossiness.
Barring / Cuckoo gene is dominant .

Thanks. He is pretty as long as you don't study his legs.

That is a beautiful olive egger, definitely worth being proud of.

I did a cross with mine and some easter eggers as well. I picked the hens that were showing the gold neck as well. I'm attempting golden cuckoo olive eggers as well.

So far they look exactly like these that I've been posting pics of, with the exception of pea combs and muffs/beards. Pic of the chicks below:

Bevs work has inspired me as well. I got the Rooster ignorantly because he was 'pretty'. Only after some research, did I find he is kinda hard to find, bred properly. After I found that out, I went back to the seller, but they had gotten rid of all their golden cuckoos. I figured that breeding my own line would be something worth doing. Even if it failed, I would gain the knowledge.

Thanks for taking the time to help me understand the genetics of our birds.
