I am not entirely certain what hens they are from. Two years ago, I hatched eggs from chickie, along side eggs from my them lone GCM hen that I picked up at Muddy Hoof farm in Lubec. They are not breeders of GCM, but have many breeds with varieties that change a lot. The Muddy Hoof hen is cleaned legged and looks like this:
This year, I hatched eggs from last year's pullets crossed back to my rooster. I used three different hens that have darkish eggs:
The two pullets above I suspect may be Muddy Hoof descendants, as they have very little leg feathering and not much golden color. I also hatched eggs from this pullet that I think came from chickie because of her nicely feathered shanks:
I am pleased that this year's two pullets do have feathered shanks. While I like working towards GCMs that are close to the proper type, I am not a breeder and really got into this in hopes for a few dark eggs!
