Let's talk Golden Cuckoo Marans!

Pics
I live in Maine.
Alright, thanks for the input!
I will cull him from the breeding stock, but he is such a wonderful rooster, I will keep him. Hatcheries are horrible even for the first line of a project. Some are worse than others. To me, Meyers is horrible in this sense. Worse than Cackle Hatchery.

I used my F0 rooster to start my own line. Now I'm no longer in need of his breeding, my wife liked him so much she is keeping him with 'her' buff orpington flock. You don't have to get rid of him if you have room.

If you were closer, I'd give you the F1 rooster that I'm having to get rid of.

We do have the room, so, thankfully, we will not get rid of him. We will try to look for a new rooster, and I will reply to your post tomorrow morning. However, I enjoy learning, so I have a question. If I bred him to these hens, the leg coloration would definitely be yellow? Or would they be yellow if I bred him to his daughters?

Hi Allisha ; you can corect his feet color on his progeny that not problem .

a problem is ; he does not carry the dark egg gene because he s a cross and that some thing you can no see and will come and haunt you in the future.

you want to spend time breeding a pure marans NO just some thing to breed?

post photos of your GCM pullets or hens .we ll help you see a good and the bad on them too.

chooks man

Hello fellow Mainer! I have 3 GCM roosters that I am growing out for the freezer if you'd like to buy one. However, I am not qualified to judge their quality. If you think you might want one, I could post photos here and get some advice on which (if any) are worth keeping.

Alright! I will definitely use a pure bred, then
I would like that, Buck! If you would post photos, that would be wonderful!
I shall post photos of the hens as well, but they all came from Meyers, so I don't really have hope for them.
And beware, we are going through a rooster problem, so the hens' backs don't look the best.

Also, does anyone know where I could find their standard of perfection, so I can look it over?
Should I ever chance buying from Meyers again?

Marans of America USA but now that you are here I doubt you would have to resort to that again!

They have a single barred (dark) male at that link, but does show an ER bird instead of e+

400

400

Quite a big color difference. I know it's nit-picky, but the barring should be sex linked, otherwise only 75% of the offspring are GCMs, the remaining 25% would be black copper pullets.
