Let's talk Golden Cuckoo Marans!

No, she never developed any gold. The other one has gold throughout. I need to get a picture of her. She is most unusual.

I had two of those pop up in the last hatch. I've retained them to see about egg color. They lay a nice solid 5, so I'm going to hang onto them until I get more girls with gold. I ended up keeping 2 gold necked hens from 2 hatches this summer, as well as 1 rooster and 2 cockerals.

One of the dark girls:

Dark girl and gold neck girl. Both hatchmates:

Although if you look closely, she does have a slight gold is tint behind her head.

How is your breeding season progressing?

I have selected my double barred GCM roosters and GCM hens for the upcoming season:

F0 and F2 together, they look very similar:

Golden Cuckoo olive egger, in case anyone wants olive eggs, will throw double barred males:

I've also got a splash in there, so I know all blue chicks came from her:

This is my initial pairing, I'll work the 2 blue copper hens into later with one rooster in a smaller pen.

Two single barred roosters that I'm retaining to see how they look. One is the older single that is continuing to gold up, the other is a 6 month old that has just started coloring up. The younger has a nicer comb.

Both:

I've also got a hen that onky has a gold tint to her neck in the same pen, she lays eggs about a 5:

my breeding season start to get better .some chicks start to hatch i the new incubator .passed 70 so sar just from Xmas eve tell now . I m well happy about the Blue cuckoo coming out of Shamrock X a Blue copper hens . well chunky and a great type .Hybrid Vigor . your penning look great to me .you have nice subject to work with to more your line forward . I have been talking to the member of the Marans breeding syndicat about the standard of the GCM .what shade of copper we are looking for . they answer is the color is not stable with a barring gene .so the variation of the lighter tone /dark tone are both accepted same as the silver cuckoo the tone can go from pure silver to almost white . guess you don t have to worry about the lighter colored hackles your roosters have plus you like it any way . they are impressed with your stock my friend .BRAVO chooks man

This is my girl Ms. Moneypenny. She is 21 weeks old & is getting very close to POL I think. I know there isn't a standard yet but would appreciate input. Too much gold? Etc. Can't wait to see her egg color.

Does she have a light breast color? She almost looks brown based. Do you have a pic from the front?

Finally a decent picture of my pretty boy.
He turned out big and beautiful. Crossing him with the hen you have should give you pullets with gold necks, single and double barred cockerals. You can also use a black copper hen and you would end up with single barred GCM cockeral correct pullets and black copper cockerals and pullets. Cross him with a blue copper hen and you end up with the same as above, but with blue of each type added in.
