Letting eggs sit before incubating?

I always understood the reason for doing this was just in case the air pocket got scrambled or detached and to make sure it was in the right position before incubation. Plus it stabilizes the temperature in all of the eggs so you are not putting them in from being too cold.

It may be an extra step, but I'm going to do it as an added precaution.

Hmmm...I was thinking I would test the theory of letting the eggs "rest" vs not, but I'm not sure how one would go about it

You have to factor in USPS handling (x-rays etc) plus the fertility of the eggs before they were even shipped.

I did some experimenting and my results didn't really vary much. I still had about the same hatch rates taking into consideration any that might be infertile.

I have never had an air cell reattach from sitting for 24 hours before incubating.. so for me I unwrap the eggs.. candle them .. repair any hairline cracks and make notes of any eggs with "issues" then put them right into the incubator..

Unless they are stored at some cold temps 50 degrees or so then yes about 6 hrs or so is fine to rest them. But if the eggs are stored at say 65-68 degrees and were on a daily rotation schedule, they go straight to the bator. If they are shipped eggs and they at room temp already then they need to go in asap, as with shipped eggs you can't be sure of collection dates so wasting 12-24 hrs may hurt hatch rates and they will be low to begin with so they need to go into the bator as soon as you unwrap and check them.

Just put mine in incubator after about 4-6 hours doesnt seem to be much difference

I have let them sit out for up to 24 hrs and put them in right away. I found no significant differences in my hatches. One thing I do is I put the shipped eggs in the incubator the day I get them and the next day turn on the turner. The eggs are all pretty well up to temperature internally then.

i got some turkey eggs from a farmer... he had been collecting them for a week. i got home, let the incubator heat up... then added the eggs... i didn't know you needed to let them sit??? whats the reasoning?

Run around the yard with both of eggs put in and out of car, etc. Then stick em in, haha. Good point.
