levamisole for tapeworm

hello,
i am new and this is my first post,
Yesterday i have seen tapeworm in my roster poop he is very thin and wont eat a lot, I told my vet and today when i visited they prescribed(levamisole) for two days and repeated a week later!
Maybe she miss heard me because she wasn't the one i spoke with earlier.
I have two question is levamisole used for treating tapeworm or gapeworm? Because I can't find anything about this treatment for tapeworm!
Second question is : i have 6 new born 5 days old chicks should i give them treatment?

Any help would really be appreciated, i am stressed right now.

Where do you live? I would not treat such young chicks for tapeworm. Tapeworm is spread by an intermediate host such as snails or worms. Levamisole is a worming medicine used in many countries. It is less used in the US since other newer medicines are now available. In the US, praziquantel is one of the better treatments for tapeworms. Albendazole and Flubendazole may also be used over several days. Here are some good articles on worming:

I have added more links above. Look around for possible intermediate hosts of tapeworms in your chickens’ environment, and remove them, since that is how they are spread.

Thanks for the quick replay.
i just want to be sure that this treatment is actually used for tapeworm treatment or not?

taking on your advice i will leave the baby chicks for now this is also what my vet told me yesterday but the other vet i meat today told me to treat them.
unfortunately i leave somewhere that birds and animal treatment is way under standard and very far from me.

We have members from all parts of the world here on BYC—India, Pakistan, African countries, Europe, and North and South America, and sometimes it helps to know where you are feom, so that others who live nearby can help you find certain treatments or medicines. Baby chicks will only get the tapeworms when they forage for food and become infected by a host of twpeworms, such as flies, snails, and worms. Cleaning up droppings from infected birds will help to prevent those intermediate hosts from passing the worms on to other chickens. Good luck.

BUT it looks as though it is an anthelmintic class drugs DO work on tapeworms and this link is an interesting read...

A vet SHOULD know which drugs work on which parasites and maybe even be familiar with local resistance/load factors.

thanks, i will contact the vet now about the treatment and i will try to visit another one tomorrow, unfortunately i already give the treatment to my beloved brahma roster i hope he will be fine

Thanks i will post update after the treatment. just to let everybody knows, called my vet he confirmed the treatment. i also went to another vet, there were two doctors they both looked at the poop pic and the funny thing is they prescribed the exact treatment lol so now i am forced to go with this corse.
